<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVeTuZ4GadnoOIfqC4HD3kotNCfnLTpG68kGAhFiQr_6zOes7BS3wGwTrwB5bHdVLivYMz-t6Q25Z97dAoZKXuPe_Vbtbj2RJJUzuo-f44ClP8lvwKZYZjQ1CZmCJDLFCsdRhEuvCYcq8/s1600/2011-11-20_Isolines_in_Section.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVeTuZ4GadnoOIfqC4HD3kotNCfnLTpG68kGAhFiQr_6zOes7BS3wGwTrwB5bHdVLivYMz-t6Q25Z97dAoZKXuPe_Vbtbj2RJJUzuo-f44ClP8lvwKZYZjQ1CZmCJDLFCsdRhEuvCYcq8/s320/2011-11-20_Isolines_in_Section.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After the jump learn how to fix this issue...</div><a name='more'></a><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To turn <em>isolines</em> off, you need to adjust the "<strong>2D Linework</strong>" Visual Style in the drawing you are cutting the Sections or Elevations. The setting that needs to be adjusted is "<strong>Draw true silhouettes</strong>". To make the needed adjustment, proceed to the "View" tab in the Ribbon and <em>click</em> the Visual Styles properties arrow (image below).</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht0qSlkI4DH2RUfhDPTAKK-P-rh2NtcHhRhW_zNQKl61_Fb_2jlhofzKUkwSEw7MJY_gU7ZbzqOA3fud7ytPvQkTi71la0dHYOxTggazvn-U6ov2hk9QBl_RQ3PwYkKkZvD9UAeaZdFXo/s1600/2011-11-20_Draw_ture_silhouettes_to_YES.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht0qSlkI4DH2RUfhDPTAKK-P-rh2NtcHhRhW_zNQKl61_Fb_2jlhofzKUkwSEw7MJY_gU7ZbzqOA3fud7ytPvQkTi71la0dHYOxTggazvn-U6ov2hk9QBl_RQ3PwYkKkZvD9UAeaZdFXo/s320/2011-11-20_Draw_ture_silhouettes_to_YES.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Of course, make sure to adjust this setting for the <strong>"2D Linework"</strong> Visual Styles; that is the one that counts. <br />
<br />
That's IT! Now refresh the Section or Elevation and the <em>isolines</em> should no longer appear.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpeGBkhZs67stGr72VQpbZ9seVKt9siDj2ihGWyLDuf4dlylC3TzCnVd5iIGJ7EN0mupSwYae6yd-28QNz_iAlabeEPwxkVyRPdXWsUyeoWDQw46qfZKI2YO2BtzdK8qBfCVX0BTLN0i8/s1600/2011-11-20_Section_with_Silhouettes_to_YES.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpeGBkhZs67stGr72VQpbZ9seVKt9siDj2ihGWyLDuf4dlylC3TzCnVd5iIGJ7EN0mupSwYae6yd-28QNz_iAlabeEPwxkVyRPdXWsUyeoWDQw46qfZKI2YO2BtzdK8qBfCVX0BTLN0i8/s320/2011-11-20_Section_with_Silhouettes_to_YES.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Thanks, and I hope this helps...<br />
<br />
<hr />BONUS TIP:<br />
This setting is drawing specific. So it is a good one to change in your company template.Mark Spatz, P.E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/04412500404844407857noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1299226675274239248.post-32480095926348301922011-10-15T20:37:00.005-04:002011-10-16T13:07:34.554-04:00Section Dimensions Don't Match the Model!!<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">If you ever model curved or circular structures with <strong>AutoCAD Arch. | MEP</strong> and have started your company template with the OTB Arch. or MEP template you may run into this issue. Below I have modeled a circular concrete tank and then cut a Section right through the center of the tank. As you can see the inner diameter of the tank is 100'-0" but when I measure the Section it measures 99'-11_1/16". This is NO GOOD!!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUF8HoYC5V4dVjYcaF-F0V1MuZStHsA9s_1N9C7TM9Q7na1mYxddouQ3VdHTG52kLh6_19G1Jb_Oc6nZ34LnLTmfv91KPv9oMmZrVARP3sssR12krO_b-MrL4acN-yDjAMPLig8Nq_9g/s1600/2011-10-15_Dimensions_Off.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUF8HoYC5V4dVjYcaF-F0V1MuZStHsA9s_1N9C7TM9Q7na1mYxddouQ3VdHTG52kLh6_19G1Jb_Oc6nZ34LnLTmfv91KPv9oMmZrVARP3sssR12krO_b-MrL4acN-yDjAMPLig8Nq_9g/s400/2011-10-15_Dimensions_Off.png" width="400" /></a></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After the jump see how to fix this issue...</div><br />
<a name='more'></a>The solution is to adjust the "AEC Display Resolution" setting in Options. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdHfXq2wBpRxS5mK2DsKyAJgU4LIg88Pr8T3FU3lE60YmHlewKJe0oMfnNmBvVw86GywmnDotSfMaxPYkSw-ImvUMpCQHdJ3k8LWNGx11rq_eP1eG_02OuTquMn3kU9k8npTukudFJmMk/s1600/2011-10-15_AEC_Display_Res.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdHfXq2wBpRxS5mK2DsKyAJgU4LIg88Pr8T3FU3lE60YmHlewKJe0oMfnNmBvVw86GywmnDotSfMaxPYkSw-ImvUMpCQHdJ3k8LWNGx11rq_eP1eG_02OuTquMn3kU9k8npTukudFJmMk/s320/2011-10-15_AEC_Display_Res.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">By default, "Facet Deviation" and "Facet Maximum" are set to 1/2" and 128, respectively. For a little more depth on what Facet Deviation is:</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Facet Deviation:</strong> the maximum number of facets that can be used to display a curved object, such as a cylinder <u>Mass Element</u> or a <u>curved Wall</u>. Facet Deviation must be greater than zero (0) and has no upper limit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">To resolve our problem we need to turn <u>DOWN</u> <strong>Facet Deviation</strong> and turn <u>UP</u> <strong>Facet Maximum</strong>. My recommendation:</div><ul><li><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Facet Deviation to 1/1000"</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Facet Maximum to 10,000.</div></li>
</ul><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

This can be done by toggling a drawing variable in the <strong>'Options --> MEP Display Control'</strong> tab.<br />
<br />
By default in AutoCAD MEP, when you draw something as below (image)...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitHH5KUXX2Z7Kt_VYLYPxO22IFWMvBqGb9bcBnVGbB6C6tthbrLxR8xPogGyhEwrzNKkCLejmuZ31Ceh0zwsIS81MBHl5Jm9PeW6CT1P5O2b5TU3QoW7RZ13tIsRARLLTo-eq-GmeSDzM/s1600/2011-07-04_Side_View.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitHH5KUXX2Z7Kt_VYLYPxO22IFWMvBqGb9bcBnVGbB6C6tthbrLxR8xPogGyhEwrzNKkCLejmuZ31Ceh0zwsIS81MBHl5Jm9PeW6CT1P5O2b5TU3QoW7RZ13tIsRARLLTo-eq-GmeSDzM/s400/2011-07-04_Side_View.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<a name='more'></a><br />
<li><b></b><b>SetXrefConfig</b> allows you to specify the display configuration that will be used in an xref drawing. </li><br />
<li><b></b><b>AecFileOpenMessage</b> allows you to disable or enable the dialog that appears when drawings from previous versions of AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP are opened. </li><br />
<li><b></b><b>AecFileSaveMessage</b> allows you to disable or enable the dialog that appears when drawings are saved to a previous drawing format. </li><br />
<li><b></b><b>AecObjectCopyMessage</b> allows you to disable or enable the dialog that may appear when copying AEC objects from future version drawings. </li><br />
<li><b></b><b>ObjRelUpdate</b> causes AEC objects to be completely reconstructed, which may be necessary to resolve display issues. </li><br />
<li><b></b><b>AecVersion</b> displays the file version of files that comprise the AutoCAD Architecture-MEP Object Enabler. </li><br />
<li><b>-DwgUnits</b><b></b> allows you to specify the drawing units that will be used with the current file. This affects how drawings are combined when inserting drawings that use different units. For example, to combine a Civil 3D drawing that uses feet with an AutoCAD Architecture drawing using inches, you would first change the units in the AutoCAD Architecture drawing to feet, and then insert it into the Civil 3D drawing. </li>Mark Spatz, P.E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/04412500404844407857noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1299226675274239248.post-33291775699700148462011-06-13T22:26:00.004-04:002011-06-14T06:58:14.469-04:00Building Renovations in Architecture<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">This is a great video on how to complete building renovations in AutoCAD Architecture \ MEP.
